Sherwin-Williams
Home Work Program
San Francisco, Boston, New York, Washington, D.C.—and now
Erie. The Sherwin-Williams Home Work Program made its debut here
in Erie in May of 2007.
The Home Work
Program trains inner-city residents for jobs in the professional
painting-contracting field by providing a 5-day training
course free
to unemployed or underemployed individuals, with preference given to
Housing Authority residents.
The course includes a combination of classroom and on-the-job
training. Graduates are also provided with
Sherwin-Williams’ certification and the equipment and supplies
necessary to immediately start working.
Nationally, the program touts an impressive job placement rate of
70 percent,
and has seen many graduates go on to start their own paint contracting
companies. Two thirds of a recent graduating class were women,
with
many single moms.
Applications for the next class are available now by
contacting Cyndie Zahner at 870-1271 czahner@erie.pa.us, or Mass Sala
at 870-1469 msala@erie.pa.us.
